Aren't bow ties supposed to be civilized?
Well check your shelves when you're shopping because certain pasta producers are willfully trying to manipulate the market and they think that you are too dumb to notice!
Farfalle pasta is one of my favorites, it catches the sauce and is easy to eat. It must be popular because many brands have quietly switched to a 12 oz box and kept the pricing the same as all of their 16 oz boxes. Farfalle (Bow Tie) pasta is the only one they are doing this with.
It does not cost more to produce. It does not cost more to package, or ship.
This is a coordinated effort by some producers to pull a fast one, creating additional demand and raising prices by lowering the quantity 25%. That's a pretty big bump. You may need to buy two boxes to feed the family now.
Not a conspiracy? I don't want to name names.. but Prince, Creamette, Racconto and many private labels ( Signature Select, Kroger, Good Value, Reggano, San Giorgio) are doing this.
You know who's not doing this (yet)? Barilla, DeCecco, Rao's, Trader Joe's and Private Selection.
So, watch what you're getting when you purchase your pound of pasta.
Not only will I not buy the 12oz (same price!) Bow Tie (Farfalle) Pasta, I won't buy any others from those companies. Obviously, can't trust them.
This has been my silent battle for the last 1.5-2 years
